                                                     Nigeria Travel, Visa and Investment Guide

To obtain an entry visa for Nigeria, the following must be done for Visitors in the Netherlands or elsewhere.

Visas

The Visa Section of the Embassy handles Visa Applications and is open to the Public on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays between  9:30am and 12:00pm for Visa applications and between 3.00pm and 3.45pm for collections except on Public Holidays. All visitors are required to have a visa to Nigeria except for citizens of countries belonging to Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

It is Noteworthy that all Visa Applications will be processed within the same day  under 24 hours if the Requirements are met. Visa Forms that are not fully Completed, Signed and Dated, or with Incomplete Requirements and Supporting Documents will not be Accepted. All visa applicants must come for interview before s/he goes to pay in the bank.

Cash Payments are not accepted but payment to the Bank should only be made after approval by the visa department after the interview. Only applications attached with Evidence of Payment (Bank Receipt) will receive immediate attention. There are no refunds!! Those who paid through Inter-Bank or Telephone Transactions etc., should send/fax evidence of such transactions to the Embassy THREE WORKING DAYS before they come for the service paid for.

Requirements

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

 (I) Evidence of Sufficient Fund for the duration of the visit or proof of other satisfactory arrangements for your support while in Nigeria. 

(II) Applicants may be requested to come for an Interview as and when necessary.

(III) Applicants must take along their Current Vaccination Certificate (Yellow Card) 

(IV) Completion of Visa Application form

(V)  SEA MEN must submit a copy of the relevant pages of their seaman’s book.

Types of Visa

    Visitor, Tourist and Transit Visas

    Business/Education Religious Visas

    Temporary Work Permit (TWP)

    Subject To Regularization (STR)

(i) Visitor, Tourist And Transit Visas

A.     Valid Passport (At least 6 months to Expiration.)

B.     One recent Passport Photograph.

C.     A copy of round-trip ticket/ flight iterinary (Applies to all applicants)

D.     Letter of Invitation accepting immigration responsibility and Evidence of financial support while in Nigeria from individual Nigerians or Nigerian organizations living in The Netherlands. If from an individual, photocopies of passport (first 5 pages) should be included with a copy of his/her residence permit.

E.      Yellow Fever Inoculation Card

F.      Applicants for transit visas must submit copies of their onward tickets and visas to their destinations.

G.     Children must submit copies of their birth certificates showing names of their two parents.

H.     Children of Nigerian parents must submit copies of their first 5 pages of one of their parents' passport.

I.        Tourists must submit copies of their certified hotel reservation statements.

J.       Applicant must provide copies of contract of employment, or recent salary pay slip or recent bank statements.

K.    Resident aliens inviting friends must submit copies of their resident permits and the first three pages of their passports.

L.      Aliens married to Nigerians or invited by Nigerians must submit copies of their hosts' or spouses passports and letters accepting responsibility.

M.   €60 payable to the Embassy's Bank Account number ABN-AMRO 60. 77. 24. 331

 

(ii)Business/Education/Religious Visas

A.     Valid passport  (At least 6 months to expiration)

B.     One recent passport-sized photograph

C.     A copy of round-trip ticket

D.     If going for business, letter of invitation from the company or business organization stating the reason must be submitted and also a guarantee letter from the applicants' Organization/Company.

E.      If going for religious purpose, approval from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Abuja, Nigeria must be submitted.

F.      If going for Educational visit, a letter of invitation from the host University or School stating its purpose must be submitted.

G.     If a student, you must submit a copy of your identification card, with an accompanying letter from your institution.

H.     Vaccination Certificate (Yellow Fever Card)

I.        € 95 payable to Embassy's Bank Account, ABN-AMRO number 60.77.24.331.

 

(iii) Temporary Work Permit (TWP)

·         A Valid passport (at least 6 months to expiration)

·         One recent passport photograph

·         Approval from Nigeria for Temporary Work Permit (TWP) (original Copy)

·         An invitation letter from company or business partner in Nigeria stating reason for the trip.

·         Letter of sponsorship from their employer – Dutch Company

·         Vaccination Certificate (Yellow Fever Card)

·         €115 payable to the Embassy's Bank Account, ABN-AMRO number 60.77.24.331.

 

(iv)Subject To Regularization (STR)

A.     A Valid passport (at Least 6 months to expiration)

B.      Completed application forms in Quadruplicate for all applicants

C.      Four recent full-face passport photographs for all applicants.

D.      Four certified copies of expatriate quota approval from Nigeria or approval from Nigeria for STR.

E.      Four certified and legalized copies of all credentials and certificates.

F.      Four copies of letter of Employment

G.           Four copies of letter of Acceptance

H.           Four copies of marriage certificate (Original copy must also to shown)

I.              Four copies of birth certificate (Original copy must also be shown) if accompanied by a child.

               H.     €600 for legalized certificates and €95 STR visa fee payable to the Embassy's Bank Account, ABN-AMRO 60.77.24.331

            Procedures for Establishing a Business Enterprise by a Foreigner in Nigeria

Procedure

Step 1: Incorporation of the Business at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in accordance with the Companies and Allied Matters Act, 1990.

Step 2: Registration of the company with Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission for the granting of Business Permit (NIPC). NIPC also grants approval for expatriate quota positions and incentives.

Requirement for Business Permit

  1. Purchase NIPC Form 1 for N10 000.- Completed form must be submitted with original receipt.
  2. Certificate of Incorporation.
  3. A minimum share capital of N5 million.
  4. Details of share holding in the joint venture.
  5. Joint venture/partnership Agreement where applicable.
  6. Memorandum and Articles of Association.
  7. CAC's Form C02 and CO 7 duly certified.
  8. Evidence of capital importation for wholly foreign companies.
  9. Approval from the appropriate professional bodies where applicable.

Expatriate Quota
In addition to the requirements listed under Business Permit, the following additional requirements have to be met for expatriate quota approval

    1. Evidence of acquisition of operational premises and operational machinery/equipment in the case of industrial establishment.
    2. Evidence of Foreign Capital Importation
    3. Management and Technical Services agreement ( for service companies)
    4. Tax Clearance Certificate
    5. Minimum authorized share capital of n5 million
    6. Evidence that the personnel required is not likely available to be available in Nigeria
    7. Minimum share capital of N15 million ( for two automatic expatriate quota position) and of N30 million share capital ( in case of four automatic expatriate quota positions)
    8. Supply name, addresses, qualifications and positions to be occupied by the expatriates
    9. The company must produce its project implementation programme.
    10. The company must produce a training programme for Nigerians in addition to management

    succession schedule.

The company will furnish its feasibility report where applicable especially for new and pioneer industries

Incentives
These include Pioneer Status and Technical Agreement incentives:

Pioneer Status
The benefit of a Pioneer Status Certificate is that the holder (i.e. the company) is exempted from payment of tax for a specified number of years (5 years or 7 years for companies located in economically disadvantaged areas)

Requirements

    1. Certificate of Incorporation
    2. Memorandum and Article of Association
    3. Feasibility study
    4. Tax Clearance Certificate
    5. Joint Venture Agreement
    6. Evidence of acquisition and installation
    7. Evidence of development carried out at factory site
    8. NIPC Form 2 ( to be purchase from NIPC at N10 000.- and should be returned with original receipt)
    9. The company must not be more than one year old
    10. Evidence of physical development of the factory site
    11. Joint venture must attain a minimum expenditure of N5 million

Technical Service Agreement
This is a form of technical co-operation agreement in which a party will agree to offer technical services to the company for the payment of a fee.

Details and terms of such agreement are normally worked out between the parties involved but such agreement should be registered with the National Office for Technological Acquisition and Promotion NOTAP

Fees Payable
Purchase of NIPC Form 1 or 2 N10 000.- 

Approval Fees 

Business Permit N5 000. -

Expatriate Quota N5 000, -

Renewal or Redesignation of Quota N5 000.-

Amendment of Business Permit N5 000.-

Permanent Until Reviewed (PUR) N5 000.- 

Technical Committee on Business Approvals
A committee of NIPC has been constituted to consider and grant or reject application for business permit, pioneer status and expatriate quota within 14 days. The committee is headed by the Executive Secretary.
